Pip and the Moonlit Forest
Once upon a time…
Pip the little fox pressed her nose to the cold, clear window of her cozy den. Outside, the whole forest was hushed and silver. The moon was wearing a silver hat tonight, tilted just a little to one side, and it looked so friendly that Pip could hardly stand it. She wanted to know where the moon went to sleep.

Just then, a soft whoosh of feathers landed on the windowsill. It was Hoot, the wise old owl, blinking his big golden eyes. "Follow the fireflies," he whispered, so quietly that the leaves did not stir. "They know every secret of the wood. Go gently, little one, and keep your eyes wide open. Stay close to the light."

So Pip tiptoed out into the night, past the sleepy rabbits in their burrows and the snoring badger under his old oak tree. Twinkle, twinkle, went the fireflies, dancing in a golden line ahead of her, and Pip followed every one. Her paws made no sound at all on the soft, mossy ground. The night smelled of pine and dew.

The path curled over a little mossy bridge and down to a pond as still as a mirror. The fireflies settled on the reeds like tiny lanterns, and the whole water glowed. Pip crept to the edge and peeked in. There was a fox looking up at her, and above the fox, round and bright, the moon looked back.
